报告摘要:
Sustainability of the resources around us is the key to survival of the human race. Sustainable development comes with actions promoting renewability and cleaner production technologies. In order to achieve the targets of the sustainable development goals and to bring out economical and renewable products in the market it becomes essential to work on development of greener technologies. Wood is a complex biological entity essential for sustenance of human life from cradle to grave. Wood protection from various biological agents like insects and fungi has been an active area of research aimed at increasing the service life of wood. The use chemical wood preservatives such as CCA, arsenic and creosote consisting of various Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) though effective have a deteriorating effect on the environment. Plants are known to possess biologically active compounds that are toxic to microbes and insects. Lantana camara L. is notoriously known as an obnoxious weed having detrimental effect on biodiversity besides being an aggressive weed with allelopathic effect. Therefore, it offers a crucial and active area of research related to its effective management and exploitation. The plant has been reported to contain a number of bioactive compounds like phenolic compounds, flavonoids, carbohydrates, proteins, alkaloids, glycosides, iridoid glycosides, oligosaccharides, quinine, saponins, steroids that are responsible for its various pharmacological properties especially anti- fungal which are the main focus of this study. The current research deals with the use of sub fractionated extract of leaves of Lantana camara L. against wood rotting fungus. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were calculated and the wood was tested at various concentrations of the sub fractionated extract via decay test on Poplar wood. The results support the possibility of Lantana possessing a great potential to be used as a wood bio preservative.
